Red Cross ... Down the street. Across the country. Around the world
Area flooding - Paducah Area Chapter Responds
Heavy rains the first week in May flooded homes and property along the Ohio in Livingston County. Over 15 homes were underwater and residents were forced to evacuate. With record water levels at the area dams, river water levels rose to 45 feet before cresting. On May 3 Red Cross volunteers opened a shelter in Livingston County and fed rescue workers and flood victims. The shelter remained opened until May 4. Fourteen local volunteers assisted in sheltering, damage assessment and client casework in the effected area.
Five local volunteers were deployed to Eastern Kentucky to help with client casework and damage assessment in that area. For anyone wishing to become a Red Cross volunteer who may deploy to state or national relief efforts, contact the chapter at 270-442-3575 for a volunteer application. Four basic classes are necessary before an individual can deploy. All disaster training is paid for by the chapter and is at no cost to the individual.
Donations are being taken for local and statewide disaster relief operations.
